When to Apply
- You should submit the visa extension application at least 7 days before the expiration date of your visa.
Where to Apply
- You need to go to the Public Security Bureau (PSB) Exit and Entry Administration office in the city where you are staying.
Required Documents
- Valid passport and your current visa
- A passport-sized photo
- A completed application form for visa extension
- Reason for the extension along with relevant supporting documents. For example:
- For a Tourist (L) Visa: Travel plan and itinerary
- For a Business (M) Visa: Certification letter from the local host organization/individual
- For a Family (Q2) Visa: Invitation letter, ID certification, and proof of family membership
- For a Short-term Student (X2) Visa: Studying certificate from Chinese educational or training institutions.
Duration of Extension
- The length of the extension depends on the type of visa. Generally, the extension of your stay cannot exceed your current visa stay period.
- For a Tourist (L) Visa, you can usually extend your stay by up to 30 days.
Cost
- The price for a visa extension is 160 yuan for nationals of most countries. For some countries, the price may differ. For example, US citizens need to pay 760 yuan for an extension while UK citizens need 469 yuan.
Tips
- It is recommended to apply for the extension in person. If you cannot speak Chinese, it is advisable to bring a Chinese friend with you.
- Make sure to apply for the extension before your visa expires to avoid penalties such as fines and possible deportation.
